Cricket is an unpredictable game. At one moment you can be on top, the next moment the opposition can make a comeback. There have been several instances of such things happening on the cricket field.

Sometimes we see some weird batting collapses taking place while sometimes we see a team that is completely on the backfoot, bouncing back and winning the game. This is all a part of the game and cricketers have done it big time.

There have also been instances where the batting order succumbs to some quality bowling but someone from the lower-order steps up for the job. So here, we list

Instances when unexpected cricketers top-scored in an innings

1) Yuzvendra Chahal vs NZ 2019

The first instance on this list itself is a huge surprise. Yes, it is the wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, this time with the bat. Although this innings was not really a big one, it was enough to make him the top scorer of the team.

During India’s tour of New Zealand 2019, the series was already pocketed by India after winning the first 3 matches comfortably. The skipper Virat Kohli had flown back to India and Rohit Sharma was named captain. In proper New Zealand conditions, India was put into bat having lost the toss in the 4th ODI.

The ball was seaming and swinging considerably and the Kiwi pacers completely ran through the Indian batting order. Chahal came into bat at the score of 55-8. He batted well and remained in the crease for a significant amount of time. When the team was bowled out for 92, he was the only batsman who remained not out at 18, the highest score of the innings.
