Pravin Tambe was a rare success story in the Indian Premier League having been picked by Rajasthan Royals in 2013 out of nowhere at the age of 42. A club cricketer, Tambe hadn’t managed to even break into the FC circuit in Maharashtra or Mumbai.

The leg-spinner picked 15 wickets for RR in IPL 2014 and even picked a hat-trick against KKR that season. He also appeared for Gujarat Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, picking a total of 28 wickets in 33 matches with the best of 4/20.

He was recently picked by Kolkata Knight Riders at the age of 48 making him the oldest buy in IPL auction history. However, he was banned from participating in the IPL 2020 by the BCCI for a weird reason. Tambe had appeared in the T10 league in UAE in 2018 after having retired from the game. However, he withdrew his retirement last year to play in Mumbai T20 League and put himself in IPL auction.

BCCI rules forbid any cricketer, who has not retired, from participating in foreign T20 or T10 leagues without prior permission. The Indian board was not informed of him withdrawing his retirement and T10 participation and hence taking a zero-tolerance stance on the matter, disqualified him from IPL 2020.
