West Indies’ tour of New Zealand in 2006 kicked off with a one-off T20I at the Eden Park. The game was marked to be the T20I debut of the West Indies Men’s team. The Caribbean boys failed to make an impression with the bat as they posted just 126/7 in their 20 overs. New Zealand were on course of an easy win as they were placed at 73/2 in the 10th over. But the slow bowlers changed the things around for the visitors who picked up wickets.

The hosts got only 34 runs in a period of 9.1 overs where they lost six wickets. James Franklin’s six and Shane Bond’s boundary in the final over helped the BlackCaps escape with a Tie. Both the teams geared up for the bowl-out which was the first-ever instance in International Cricket. The scoreline remained 0-0 even after six attempts made by three bowlers for each team.

Nathan Astle, Jeetan Patel and Chris Cairns missed out for the Kiwis while Dwayne Smith, Chris Gayle and Jerome Taylor failed to knock down the stumps twice each. The first successful attempt came from Shane Bond who knocked down the stumps in his both turns. At the same time, Ian Bradshaw failed in both chances but Scott Styris hitting in his first chance gave New Zealand a winning lead of 3-0.
