New Zealand beat Sri Lanka in the 1st Test as opener Martin Guptill and Tom Latham batted positively and went on to notch centuries. It’s also time for the other guys to chip in and make a point in the last match of the Test series. While the visitors will want to level the series and travel back with a win.
Here are the players to watch out for in the New Zealand v Sri Lanka 2nd Test:
1. Kane Williamson:
Probably one of the biggest prospects for New Zealand’s cricketing future, Kane Williamson at the age of 25 has certainly achieved plenty at the top level. Among the top 5 run scores in the world this year, Kane was a key player for the Kiwis in the recently concluded series against Australia. After getting crucial fifties in both innings in the first Test, all eyes would be upon him as NZ look to whitewash Sri Lanka.
2. Angelo Mathews:
The Sri Lankan skipper and the most experienced player in the Sri Lankan lineup has time and again shown his intent with a robust batting technique, consistency and his athleticism in the field. He would like to put his failure in the first match on his back. Also the leading run scorer for Sri Lanka this year, Mathews will try to end the year on a good note by drawing the series.
3. Dinesh Chandimal:
One of the most promising young batsmen for Sri Lanka, Chandimal put up some top performances against India and West Indies at home this year. After a prolific season, Chandimal will be thriving to take his route to greatness. He seemed fantastic in both the innings in the first Test with half centuries and there cannot be a bigger stage for him than this match to stamp his authority and help the Lankans square the series.
4. Ross Taylor:
For someone who wasn’t had a very good 2015 till last month, Ross Taylor hammered 290 against Australia in Perth which in the process became the highest score by a visiting batsman in Australia. For someone who has fought many obstacles in the form of injuries, loss of captaincy in recent years, Ross would be looking to build upon the confidence he gained in Australia. Though he failed to get going in the first Test, he’ll like to replicate his batting against the Lankans and help NZ complete a whitewash.
5. Trent Boult:
In a series that was completely dominated by the batsmen, Boult picked up 13 wickets vs Australia. He presented a significant threat to the English batsmen earlier this year as well. The highest wicket taker for the Kiwis this year, Boult bowled well in the first Test, but couldn’t manage to do something extraordinary. He would be looking forward to troubling the inexperienced Lankan batsmen and seal the series for New Zealand.
