5 Reasons why Australia can get the better of English Lions in the 5th ODI: “We’re all tired, but that’s international cricket, that’s what you do when you’re representing your country”. Lehmann’s words sums up the summer’s calendar for Australian Cricket. Australia are an in-form team and England will like to carry on the momentum. This makes the decider a treat to watch.
1. Ending on a high:
Australia will look to end their drought run with a shine in their trophy cabinet. The yellow brigade had a good run in the shorter format of the game, and they will look to seal the series and make up for the Ashes disaster. A team comprising of big hitter’s like Smith, Finch and Maxwell would like to capitalise from the start and take an early edge on the three lions. The likes of Bailey, Burns and Wade can come handy going into crisis situations. The Australian side has the right temperament to match their aggression and such instinct can decide the plot on their favour.
2. Live wires with Bull’s eyes:
The likes of Glenn Maxwell can make you go numb on any given day, when it comes to his fielding skills. Flying like an eagle to hitting on the go, the Aussies have an upper hand over Morgan’s men when it comes to this facet of the game. With Bailey, Steve Smith and Aaron Finch covering up the best yards, England will have their task cut out for the series decider. Finals can showcase few butterfingers around the park but Australia knows their game well and will look to take on the half chances early on.
3. Cummins’ “Coming of Age”:
This 22 year old can set the stage on fire with his steep bounce, fiery pace and impressive control. Pat Cummins’ has been prone to injuries and this has been his longest run on a trot in respect to caps. Cummins’ can test the English batsmen under familiar condition and don’t be surprised if he sends all the English batsmen packing. To add to that Ashton Agar and Pattinson can act as perfect second fiddle and get Australia wickets in the middle overs.
4. Setting the record straight:
The last time England and Australia came across at Headingley was in the year 2005 when rain gods had their final say and the fixture was washed out with little to play. Australia has won 11 out of their last 13 ODI’s against England, and they will look to continue their dominance and salvage pride coming into the tour’s end.
5. Steve Smith and his batting party:
For the most part of the summer, the English army have sent the Aussies into leather hunt. Australia have faced harsh criticism from home and away. With Clarke & Co. facing the heat and notable names making exit, the onus will be on the Kangaroos to pack a punch and spoil the English party in a convincing manner. They have a captain and one of the best batsmen in Steve Smith who knows exactly what they need to do to beat this English team on any given day; if he and his fellows are able to deliver with the bat, they might well bat England out in the finals.
