Rahul Dravid’s record as captain is often underrated due to India’s disastrous Champions Trophy and World Cup campaigns during 2006-2007 under him. The majority portion of India’s world record streak of 17 wins while chasing came during Dravid’s tenure as the Indian captain. He also led India to overseas Test series wins which India hadn’t managed for a couple of decades.

Under his captaincy, India won Test series in England, West Indies and Bangladesh alongside home victories. Dravid led India to their maiden Test win on South African soil and was also the captain in the famous innings win during the 2004 Multan Test. This meant India won at least one Test under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy in all the six countries where he led the team in this format.

No other Indian player has been a captain in more than three nations having won at least one Test. Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni have won a Test in 8 different countries as captain but led India in 10 and 9 nations in the longest format. Ganguly missed out on wins in New Zealand and South Africa while Dhoni in Australia. Virat Kohli won a Test in six countries out of the eight he led India having missed out victories in Bangladesh and New Zealand.
