As of 2020, the Test skipper of England Root stands in the top 10 of both Test and ODI rankings by <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/icc-bars-players-below-15-in-the-international-and-under-19-cricket/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ICC</a> in the batter’s category. Time and again, he is being ignored in IPL auction, and this is how he hasn’t been able to see the fancy yet competitive platform of the Indian Premier League. He has a great captaincy record in his bag too.
He had an impressive T20 Blast campaign but seemed like it wasn’t enough to bag an IPL contract. He has some great record in T20 cricket too, which could suffice for the new franchise to give him the honour in the team. With so many contestants on the priority, it will be a thing to watch whether Root would be able to change the owner’s mind in IPL 2021 or not. He would have an advantage while getting exposed to the most competitive T20 league where many of his teammates are already doing a great job for different franchises out there.
