Ravi Shastri, the former Indian cricketer, has recently been re-appointed as the head coach of the Indian team. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad, and Shantha Rangaswamy, put forth the decision. It’s now time for the support staff to be selected, which will be done before India’s home series versus South Africa, starting Sunday, September 15.

The senior selection committee, comprising of MSK Prasad, the chairman of selectors, Sarandeep Singh, Devang Gandhi, Gagan Khoda and Jatin Paranjpe, are conducting interviews for Team India’s support staff. Just like the head coach, the support staff’s tenure ended after the 2019 edition of the World Cup. They are on a 45-day extension until the conclusion of the ongoing West Indies tour.

The last set of interviews is set to take place on August 22

The exercise started after Shastri’s selection as per the website of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Starting Monday, a total of 14 candidates for the position of batting coach were interviewed. For the bowling coach, 12 while nine gave their interviews for the fielding coach. 16 and 12 gave interviews for the position of physiotherapist and Strength and Conditioning Coach respectively.

Lalchand Rajput, who missed out on being the head coach, has also thrown his hat in the ring. The process is currently underway. 25 candidates have applied for the post of Administrative Manager for Senior Men’s Team. The last set of interviews is set to take place on August 22 , 2019. The support staff will be appointed for a period of two years until the 2021 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Shastri’s tenure will also end after the T20 extravaganza in Australia. The national team is currently in the West Indies where the Virat Kohli-captained unit is all set to take part in the two-match Test series, which gets underway at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North-South, Antigua.

It will also mark the start of Team India’s journey in the awaited ICC World Cup Championship. India are currently unbeaten on the tour, having won all their five completed matches. As far as the series versus the Proteas is concerned, the itinerary consists of three T20Is and three Tests.
