8 Teams confirmed for ICC Champions Trophy 2017: Cricket’s highest governing authority the International Cricket Council on Wednesday officially announced the eight teams that will battle it out in the Champions trophy tournament scheduled to take place in 2017 from 1 June to 18 June.
With 127 points Australia was the first to qualify, then it was India closely followed by South Africa and New Zealand. Without any drama, Sri Lanka and England also qualified. But there was a spot of tumult between the triad of Bangladesh, Pakistan and West Indies as to who will qualify.
But it was all settled by the ICC today crystal clear. Bangladesh will return to the ICC Champions trophy for the first time since 2006. Bangladesh edged past their close contenders West Indies. Bangladesh last participated in the ICC champions trophy in India when it got eliminated in the qualifying round.
Pakistan has qualified with 90 points very marginally ahead of West Indies. All the 8 teams were selected owing to their rankings as of the cut off date Sep.30 2015. The ICC Champions Trophy will be a 15 match tournament, with teams split into groups of four, with the top two teams of each group advancing to the semi finals. The groups and the schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy is expected to be announced soon.
