Days after delivering that disastrous 35-run over to Pat Cummins, Daniel Sams redeemed himself with a remarkable last over against the high-flying Gujarat Titans. GT needed nine runs off the last over with David Miller and Rahul Tewatia being the two batters in the middle. As the duo have been in ravishing form lately, Titans’ win looked a mere formality. However, Sams had different ideas.

The left-arm Australian pacer executed his slower deliveries to perfection and gave away just three runs, taking MI to a famous five-run triumph. Speaking about his mindset in the last over, Sams said the equation made him feel there’s nothing to lose and he didn’t take much pressure on himself. The Aussie speedster also said he backed his ability to fox batters with slower deliveries.

My intent was to stick to the best balls: Daniel Sams

“Awesome we got over the line, it went back and forward. 9 runs off 6 balls made me feel I have nothing to lose and the odds are in the batter’s favour, I got a few wide balls in the tramline and managed to execute it well. My intent was to stick to the best balls I could bowl, the slower one is the ball I go back to and it paid off,” Sams said after the match.

Notably, MI, having lost their first eight games, were already out of the IPL 2022 playoff race and any result against GT wouldn’t have helped them. “After the eight losses, we looked at it as a mini-IPL with six games. We are trying to show what we can do and were able to pull it off which helps our confidence,” said Sams.

Meanwhile, MI skipper Rohit Sharma was also mighty impressed with Sams for overcoming the ghosts of his previous failures.  “He was under the pump in a couple of games, but I have seen him for Australia and in the BBL, he has a lot of skill. It was not easy to defend nine runs,” said Rohit.
