Former T20 skipper Shahid Afridi has said that a farewell match is his right and urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday to give him an opportunity to bid adieu in a respectful manner.

“A farewell match is my right,” said Afridi.

Afridi, who now plays only in the T20 format, informed that he has talked to PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan about a farewell match according to reports.

It was previously reported that the PCB was planning to give Afridi a send-off in the T20I series against West Indies which recently concluded. However, the decision was later changed by the board and Afridi was not even named in the squad for the UAE tour.

It is relevant to inform that Chairman PCB executive committee Najam Sethi tweeted on September 17 saying that the board would give a fitting sendoff to both Afridi and off-spinner Saeed Ajmal.

However, Ajmal also spoke out and rejected the offer saying that he has no intentions to quit and game and is trying his best to stage a comeback in the limited overs format.

However, things are not falling in line for both the veterans. It seems to be becoming worse for the Afridi as well as Saeed Ajmal. It is said that the PCB has now decided to erase their names from the list of centrally contracted players for the year 2016/17.

Rumours have been doing round that the names of Afridi and Ajmal have not been included in the preliminary list of players who will be given the 12-month central contracts next month.

The central contracts divided into four categories guarantee a lucrative monthly salary for the players regardless of whether they are playing or not.
