A mythological fan of the Royal Challengers Bangalore: IPL has been receiving tremendous support through length and breadth of the country. The players and the franchises bank heavily on the support of these adherents that gather at their home ground and this has been one of the vital factors that surely affects the performance of the team on a given day. One such ardent fan, Mr. Sugumar Kumar was accorded with a rare title as the Royal Challengers official fan.

There are regular supporters for most of the IPL teams, but the standout feature of the Bangalorean is his attire, that depicts the culture of his native state Karnataka and extends to the whole of India. His conviction for spreading not only Karnataka culture but that of India as a whole, along with cricket is commendable. On several occasions, he has dressed up in the outfits of various Mythological figures and Historical characters from the country. “It’s the culture of our city and state which inspired me to go out to the stadiums in different costumes. If you would have noticed most of the costumes that I wear have been similar to the ones our Kings used to dress in, or sometimes I put makeup of gods as well” says Sugumar.

Even a regular fan tends to lose confidence in the team after a series of losses and RCB has been one of the most unpredictable sides that have failed to pull off close games despite having the likes of AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli in their team who are unquestionably the best players in the game. But this extraordinary fan has a different take on the situation and opines that, “Winning is secondary, enjoying the game is the first. Look at our RCB team it’s fully packed with entertainers like Gayle, ABD, Kholi etc. When I come to the stadium I just wish the game is entertaining and that gives me happiness and of course I’ll be on cloud 9 if RCB wins the IPL title”.

The Royal Challengers has gone through lots of ups and downs from the inaugural season till today and they have failed at various stages to put their best foot forward. Bangalore have played like champions for all the games but the finals; despite of that their fans and the management have kept the hope alive and their belief that they can hunt the cup and can make a comeback at any stage.

Sugumar has been staunch supporter of the game and RCB in particular, even though has had his professional and personal commitments but made sure he was there to support the RCB boys, “If I’m not wrong RCB has played 38 matches (IPL ONLY) in M. Chinnaswamy stadium and I have been there for all the matches that have happened here.  Thanks to the Karnataka Cricket Association staffs and RCB staffs for supporting me to the best”.

In fact, Sugumar has also received the Nokia fan of the match award back in the year in 2011. He credits the organization that employees him the INDEV GROUP OF COMPANIES for allowing him to make regular visits to the stadium and support his team. The recognition given to Mr. Sugumar Kumar as the official fan of the RCB is remarkable and it only shows that irrespective of whether the teams win or lose supporters like him never get disheartened and only back the team even more in tougher times.

The official fan further tells us that his support is not just restricted to the Royal Challengers’ but wants to cheer for the Indian team from the stands; it is his wish to show the world the diversity of Indian culture and its history along with the love for the game of cricket.
