A revived England thrash New Zealand: England vs New Zealand – 1st ODI Statistical Review: England’s new era in ODI Cricket, got off to a dream start as the hosts trashed the World Cup 2015 runner-ups, New Zealand by 210 runs after posting a mammoth 408 on board while batting first. There were lot of stats recorded during the game in which England completely outclassed the Kiwi’s with both bat and ball.

–> England scored 408 runs for loss of 9 wickets, their highest total in ODI cricket. Their previous best was 391 for 6 against Bangladesh. The present 408/9 by England is the 12th highest team score overall.

This is also the highest ODI total in England beating previous total of 391 for 6 by England vs Bangladesh at Nottingham. Previous highest team total at Birmingham was 347 for 7 by England vs Bangladesh in 2010.

–> England scored its first ever 400+ total similarly New Zealand conceded 400+ runs for the first time.

England became the 6th Test Nation to score a total in access of 400 in ODI Cricket. West Indies, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh are the teams who haven’t recorded 400+ totals.

–> England scored a total of 14 sixes in their innings, the most for them in a single ODI innings. Their previous best was 12 sixes vs South Africa in 2009 at Centurion.

–> So far 16 instances have been recorded of 400 and plus totals in ODI Cricket off which 5 came in 2015, the most 400+ totals in a calendar year. In 2006, 4 scores over 400 were registered, which was then the best.

–> Jos Buttler completed his century in 67 balls, the 2nd fastest century in ODIs for England. The fastest is also by Buttler when he got it in 61 balls. Joe Root scored his century in 70 balls which was the 4th fastest century by an English player in ODIs.

With this century, Jos Buttler became the 7th player to score 2 or more centuries inside 70 deliveries. Other six batsmen are Shahid Afridi, Sanath Jayasuriya, Virender Sehwag, AB de Villiers, Shakib Al Hasan and Virat Kohli. Out of these, Sehwag, Afridi and ABD scored 4 centuries in 70 balls and Jayasuriya has scored on 3 occasions.

–> Jos Buttler scored his highest ODI score as well as his highest List A score of 129 beating his previous best of 121 vs Sri Lanka, last year.

Buttler’s 129 is the highest score for an England’s No.6 batsman. Previously held by Owais Shah who scored 107* vs India in 2007. Buttler’s total is also the 4th highest ODI score by a No.6 batsman.

–> Jos Butler and Adil Rashid shared a stand of 177 runs for 7th wicket which is now the highest partnership in ODI Cricket for the 7th wicket. Previous highest was between Andy Flower and Heath Streak from Zimbabwe worth 130 runs against England in 2001 at Harare.

The 177 run stand between Buttler and Rashid went at a run rate of 10.11, the fourth best run-rate maintained by a partnership in ODI cricket worth more than 175 runs.

–> Debutant for England, Sam Billings was dismissed lbw by New Zealand’s debutant Mitchell Santner. This was the first instance of a debutant dismissed another debutant in ODIs between England and New Zealand.

–> England’s innings saw two batsmen scoring centuries and other two batsmen scoring fifties, which has been seen only on two other occasions in ODI Cricket. 1st time was by India against Hong Kong in 2008 at Karachi and South Africa vs India in 2010 at Ahmedabad.

–> England won the match by 210 runs, the largest margin of victory for England in terms of runs. Their previous best margin of win in ODI was 202 runs vs India in 1975 at Lords. This was the 2nd largest margin of loss for New Zealand, with the previous being by 215 runs against Australia in 2007.

–> Adil Rashid became the first ever leg spinner to pick up a 4-wicket haul in ODIs.

–> Adil Rashid picked up 4 wickets and scored 50 runs in the match, which was the 8th instance in England’s ODI cricket history where a player scored 50 runs and picked up 4 wickets in an ODI.

In overall, this was the 55th instance where a player scored 50 runs and picked up 4 wickets.

–> England had two centurions during their batting innings and two bowlers who picked up 4 wickets while bowling in the game. This turned to be only the 5th instance where a team posted two centuries and two 4-wicket hauls.

Other instances were Pakistan vs Sri Lanka in 1996, Netherlands vs Namibia in 2003, England vs Bangladesh in 2005 and Ireland vs Kenya in 2007.
