Ishant Sharma is known for his resilient approach with the bat in hand. Despite bowling being his primary role, he has managed to shine with the willow as well. Having had quite a few scores in the 20s and 30s, he hasn’t been a disaster. Last year, he got his maiden Test half-century against the West Indies at the Kingston in Jamaica. He got 57 off 80 with the help of seven fours.

In a recent interaction, Mayank Agarwal, who was also a part of the Test, asked Ishant about how he felt when Indian skipper Virat Kohli and the others celebrated for him. Responding to it, Ishant asked Mayank if he remembers KL Rahul’s reaction.

“Forget everyone’s reaction. Ask KL, how he felt about me scoring a fifty. He said ‘we were thinking if he scores a hundred, we would have to jump off from the balcony’,” Ishant was quoted as saying to Mayank in a video uploaded by the BCCI.

I gave him some batting advice: Ishant Sharma

Thereafter, Mayank asked if Rahul had given the bowler some sort of a challenge. “KL had given you some challenge, to pass his score. As soon as you passed his score, KL was like ‘aaj Ishi bhai bohot sunaega’,” Mayank said.

Rahul had challenged Ishant to score more runs than him. Even as Rahul, combining both the innings, managed only 19 runs, Ishant outscored him by a country mile. Ishant then hilariously said that he gave some batting tips to Rahul.

“KL scored some 25-26 runs (he had actually scored 13 runs) and he said ‘son, if you score more than me, I will do this and that for you’. After I scored a half century, I gave him some batting advice and he was like ‘Stop it bro, you scored fifty and ab meri jaan kha raha hai (and now you are teasing me),” Ishant added.

The Jamaica Test also happens to be the one where Kohli became India’s most successful Test skipper, surpassing MS Dhoni. India won the game by 257 runs and the series 2-0. For Rahul, it remains to his last Test series until now after he flattered to deceive.
