The Indian captain Rohit Sharma became the first player ever to score three double-centuries in ODIs in the ongoing second match in Mohali. He remained unbeaten on 208 as the hosts piled on 392 runs after 50 overs with the loss of only four wickets. Interestingly, he had brought up his century off 115 deliveries and then smashed his next hundred in next 36 balls only. However, the former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that Rohit has the ability to score a triple ton in the 50-overs format soon.

Rohit Sharma, after losing the toss saw the new ball off early on and then easily got settled in with some sensible cricket as his partner Shikhar Dhawan took the charge. Shreyas Iyer continued to play aggressively after that even as his skipper played few grounded shots. But once the death overs began and he crossed his century, Rohit slammed every bowler who came his way. Moreover, he smashed the Man of the Match of the last ODI Suranga Lakmal for four consecutive sixes in the 44th over of the innings and caused mayhem.

Aakash tweets

Rohit Sharma’s hitting was so clean that every cricket expert and the commentators were left in awe of his batting. Even Aakash Chopra could keep himself calm and took to microblogging website Twitter which was already flooded with the messages. He backed the ‘Hit-man’ of India to become the first ever cricketer to score a triple-century in One-Day cricket soon. His tweet for Rohit read, “Only man to score three 200s in ODI. Can easily be the first man to score a 300. No one hits the ball cleaner… #RohitSharma #IndvSL.”

Here is his tweet:

Sri Lanka in tatters

Sri Lanka are in tatters chasing the mammoth total of 392 and have already lost their top three batsmen in the line-up. Angelo Mathews and Niroshan Dickwella are currently battling it out in the middle as the visitors are struggling to come to terms with the asking rate do far. The required run rate has already soared towards 10 which began with being just under 8. They would need a special innings from either of the two in the middle even if they have to get close to 300 runs in this chase.
