With the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League just a few days away, the former Indian opener Aakash Chopra performed a SWOT analysis on the three-time champions Chennai Super Kings. The cricketer turned commentator opined on the overall squad of the Super Kings and also revealed the name of the team that can be a threat in the CSK’s campaign for IPL 2020.

Arguably, the MS Dhoni-led franchise is the most consistent and successful team. It is the only team in the history of the lucrative T20 Championship to have qualified for the playoffs in all the seasons it has featured in. Also, the Chennai-based franchise has reached the finals of the tournament eight times and has lifted the trophy thrice, in 2010, 2011, and 2018.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra reckoned that the defending champions Mumbai Indians are the one team that can limit CSK as the latter hasn’t received any considerable success while playing against MI. In the past 12 editions, Mumbai has locked horns with Chennai for the four times in the tournament final and has emerged as a winner thrice. Even in the head to head, Mumbai Indians have the upper hand, winning 17 out of the 28 clashes between them.

“Talking about the threats, they have Mumbai Indians as their biggest threat. If you see the history of the IPL, this is one team against whom they have not been able to display their magic. They tend to lose to the Mumbai Indians,” Chopra said

The squad is very tight-knit: Aakash Chopra

Further in the video, the 42-year-old stated that the harsh weather conditions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) could pose another threat to the Yellow Army as they have a tight-knit squad without many backup options available.

“One more thing is that it is going to be extremely hot in the UAE. That is another threat because in that heat you would be playing back to back matches, the squad is very tight-knit, you don’t have too much maneuverability. There are some players in the team whom you may not be able to play because they do not have match-winners beyond their top 15-16 players,” he added.
