Deepak Chahar is fast turning out to be an important member of Team India. His recent displays against South Africa pretty much showed that he has got all it takes to add another dimension to India’s already formidable bowling attack. While he is not an out and out fast bowler, he certainly makes up for it with his swing and line.

On the tour of West Indies too, he had a very impressing outing. In the third game of the T20I series, he had picked up impressive figures of 3 wickets for just four runs off three overs. His impressive performances had prompted India captain Virat Kohli to put the fast bowler’s new-ball skills on par with Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

“He was really lethal with the new ball,” Kohli had said. “The way he swings it and the areas he bowls in, he puts the batsman in a lot of trouble. With the new ball, his skills are right up there (with Bhuvneshwar’s).”

He further enhanced his reputation with a couple of impressive performances against South Africa. In the second T20I, he picked up 2 for just 22 off his four overs to set up an easy chase for India in Mohali. In the third game, he conceded just 15 runs from his three overs although India lost the game. What has been impressive about Chahar is his ability to bowl in death overs. The right-handed pacer has done extremely well in the slog overs and it could really make him an important member of the team.

Aakash Chopra knew it

There is little denying that Deepak Chahar has become a household name only in recent times. He has carved his own identity with his impressive performances in the recent seasons of IPL and for Team India. However, former India opener Aakash Chopra knew it all along that Chahar would be a big name right from the time the youngster came onto the scene.

On Friday, the ex-cricketer-turned-commentator took to Twitter to re-tweet one of his old tweets where he predicted a bright future for the Rajasthan star. Incredibly, Chopra had tweeted about Chahar way back in 2010, writing, “I’ve spotted a young talent…Deepak Chahar in Rajasthan. Remember his name…you’d see a lot of him in the future :)”
