Australia is facing a defeat at the hands of England side in the fifth and final Test of the Ashes 2019 at The Oval in London. Though the Kangaroos have retained the urn after winning the fourth Test, the series is still on the line. England has done mightily well for themselves as they are 382 runs ahead and have two wickets in hand to extend the lead.

Add to that, Australia captain Tim Paine has been wasting DRS reviews here and there. Many of the fans might still remember how he wasted the review in the Leeds Test when his team was trying its best to win the match despite Stokes’ heroics. He used up a review on Jack Leach when the ball had pitched outside leg stump. Ben Stokes had been trapped LBW by Lyon, but the umpire didn’t give it out and Australia was devoid of any reviews, bringing Paine’s usage of DRS under the microscope.

Paine should enroll into MS Dhoni school of DRS usage, says Aakash Chopra

This Test also showed how bad Paine is with his DRS calls, despite the fact the majority of teams depend on its wicketkeeper to take the right call from behind the stumps. One such example is that of MS Dhoni, who has a very high rate of correct DRS calls, so much that captain Virat Kohli mostly goes with what the former captain suggests.

Paine in the ongoing Test failed to review a not-out decision against Jos Buttler after an appeal for LBW. Replays showed Nathan Lyon should have got his man as the ball was hitting the stumps. He also let Joe Denly get away with a call when he opted not to use DRS when he was playing on 54. Replays showed three reds which meant had he taken the DRS, Joe Denly would have been back in the pavilion, instead, he went on to score 94 runs in the second innings.

This gave former India opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra an opportunity to troll Paine and he tweeted that he should take lessons from MS Dhoni on how to use the DRS correctly. “Give a call to Dhoni. See if he’s ready to take students, Dhoni Review System,” Chopra tweeted,

“I’m getting it wrong. I don’t know what else to say. We’re having a mare (nightmare). We’ve got it wrong. It’s a tough job as I’ve said throughout the whole Test series. I’ve got a new respect for umpiring, particularly in Test cricket because it’s a hard job,” Paine was quoted as saying by India Today.
