Former Pakistani all-rounder Aamer Sohail stated that the chances of staging a grand comeback for Umar Akmal are almost nil after the batter’s latest outburst against the national team head coach Mickey Arthur. He also feels that what he has said recently is purely out of frustration. Akmal was initially selected for the ICC Champions Trophy by the national team selectors. But he was sent back home by Arthur after the cricketer failed in two consecutive fitness tests.

From there onwards, the fire of rivalry between the player and the coach was ignited which took a massive shape when the batsman wanted to avail Grant Flower’s services at the NCA. But Mickey Arthur was not willing to allow him and rather asked him to play club level cricket. According to Umar, Arthur abused him verbally and the senior players present there remained mere spectators.

Sohail feels that Akmal, termed by a ‘supremely talented’ cricketer by many, was getting frustrated at the way he was left out of the national team and the end result was his crazy claims. “In my view, there is little doubt in the fact that Umar Akmal is doing this out of frustration at the manner in which his career is progressing so far. There was a lot of promise in his career at the onset but that has failed to materialize and not been fulfilled,” said Sohail, as quoted by PakPassion.net.

PCB has failed to provide support to Akmal

The 50-year old retired cricketer from Lahore, Punjab also bashed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by saying that the board has not supported Akmal by any means whatsoever. “The PCB on their part have also been lax in the way they have failed to provide support to the batsman. If he had any drawbacks or faults in his skills or personality, then they should have mentored him in a proper way,” the owner of over 6,000 international runs added.
