Former Pakistan batsman Aamir Sohail said that his team should beware of MS Dhoni when he bats against Pakistan in their opening game of the Champions Trophy. India and Pakistan will lock horns for a fourth time in Champions Trophy history on June 4 at Edgbaston.

The former left-handed batsman Sohail attended the Aaj Tak Salaam Cricket 2017 event in London, during which he lauded Dhoni’s capacity, both as a leader as well as a batsman. He felt the former Indian captain’s effectiveness in winning matches for the team is simply remarkable and unmatched.

Aamir Sohail on Dhoni’s batting ability

“The way Dhoni has been able to win matches with a team with limited resources is remarkable”, the former Pakistani opener said. “Pakistan should definitely be scared of Dhoni, he is still a very dangerous player,”

Additionally, Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was also present at the event, heaped praises on Dhoni’s leadership skills. He mentioned that despite the fact that Dhoni is no more the captain of the Indian cricket team, the team still rallies around him, and he, in turn, displays a sense of dynamism to keep them going.

“Dhoni can win you matches not just as a batsman but also as a wicket-keeper, as a leader,” Harbhajan said.

However, he also pointed out that Dhoni, along with Yuvraj Singh, have slumped in some ways, and no longer bat with the flourish they did in their heydays. “(Back then) they could start hitting from the word go. Now if they are willing to spend time in the middle and play out 20-25 balls then they can regain their touch,” Harbhajan added.

Aamir Sohail, on the other hand, was all praises for MS Dhoni for having successfully built one of India’s strongest teams. He acknowledged that Dhoni has been the pillar of the current Indian side as well.

“The team which Virat Kohli has inherited, Dhoni has a huge role to play in that. The way Dhoni has been able to win matches with a team with limited resources is remarkable,” Sohail concluded.
