Australia’s T20 skipper and ace batsman Aaron Finch is going through a rough patch and has pointed out the very importance of break for players living in COVID-19 bio-bubble for months. Finch believes that players need to be rested, and a long time in these bubbles is unsustainable. He just had a nightmarish BBL season with Melbourne Renegades, where they finished last on the points table for the second straight year after a consolation over Hobart Hurricanes.

The Australian batter could only score 179 runs from 13 matches at a poor average of 13.76, and he took the full onus of his dismal form. He stated that endless cycles of COVID-19 bubbles have taken a big toll on his mental health. Finch stated that he is looking out for few days to relax completely and won’t be looking at his kit bag at all in the meanwhile.

“I had an absolute shocker with the bat. The harder I trained the worse I got, which is the opposite of what everyone tells you to do. My wife worked it out the other day that I’ve had 20 or 21 days since April that I haven’t been in lockdown or in a bubble. I’m going down to the beach for a few days to relax. My kit bag won’t be coming out of my car, I can tell you. It will be locked away,” said Finch as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Aaron Finch to lead the T20 tour of New Zealand

Finch will be all set to lead the T20 tour of New Zealand, which will move from their soil one day after the BBL final, February 7. Trevor Hohns, the national selector has stated that he is confident that Finch would come out of his rough phase on the New Zealand tour. Australia has decided to send two separate squads for the tour of South Africa and New Zealand.

The selectors have decided to go with the first-choice Test squad for South Africa’s tour, while Finch would have to deal with the squad, which would be without the services of their star players like David Warner, Steve Smith, etc.
