AB De Villiers shook the cricketing universe yesterday with his decision to retire from international cricket. The call seemed unbelievable because the 34-year-old has been in some sensational form in the past few months. He stated tiredness and running out of gas as reasons for his retirement.
Just days after Royal Challengers Bangalore got knocked out of the tournament, AB De Villiers posted a video on all his social media platforms. His RCB teammate Mohammed Siraj was surprised with the decision as well. He felt that the right-hander still had some cricket left in him. He further described his experience with Mr 360 degrees in the nets.
Looking at his consistency, it’s tough to believe that he won’t be playing international cricket anymore
AB De Villiers was amongst the top run scorers for RCB this year with a tally of 480 runs. Having scored five fifties, he singlehandedly led them to victory in a couple of games. Mohammed Siraj asserted that he was one of the fittest players in the camp. He further felt that ABD still had a lot of cricket in himself.
“AB is one of the most energetic and fit players in our Bangalore squad. I was shocked when I heard of his retirement this afternoon. The way he is playing and performing so consistently, it’s tough to believe that he won’t be playing international cricket anymore. He has a lot of cricket left in him and can still easily play at the highest level.” He was quoted as saying by Midday.
ABD never hits unorthodox shots while batting in nets
Famously known as Mr 360 degrees for having an amazing range of cricketing shots, AB De Villiers doesn’t practice them in nets. According to Siraj, he sticks to playing with a straight bat. Further, he described him as a lively person who gets along with all the other players in the team.
“He is a very humble person. He never behaved like a big star with us. He got along with everyone very easily. Mast maze ka banda hai woh [he’s a fun guy]. AB never hit big shots while practising. Not a single time have I seen him experimenting with his strokes or playing shots like the reverse sweep or upper cut. He always played straight and it’s always tough to get him out.” The Indian pacer told according to Midday.
