The decade is about to end, and as a fan, if you close your eye and think about one defining moment of the past ten years as far as Indian cricket is concerned, the only video that’ll play into your mind will be of Nuwan Kulasekara running-in to bowl to MS Dhoni, and the latter proceeding to smoke it over long-on to end the 28-year-drought of not winning a 50-over World Cup, with Ravi Shastri’s words- “Dhoniiii finishes off in style! India lifts the Wolrd Cup after 28 years and it’s the Indian captain who has been absolutely fantastic on the night of the final”- adding to the theatre.

It was indeed a pivotal moment for India; one that was built on years’ of hard work, humiliating upsets, controversial exits [Read: Eden Garden 1996], heartbreaks and so-close-yet-so-far moments [Read: 2003 World Cup final].

And, Ravi Shastri’s voice and his words in the aftermath of that winning-six literally summed up what this cricket-loving country had gone through in the past 28 years. Commentators are a heartbeat of any sporting occasion. They add color to the theatre that is live sport with their voice. Think back to this year’s World Cup final! Didn’t Ian Smith make that already remarkable event even more unforgettable?

It sure did! And, the same was the case with Shastri and his commentary in the defining moments of the 2011 World Cup final. So-much-so that you can’t even imagine anyone but Shastri who would have called that moment any better. So, when Akash Chopra, former-cricketer-turned-commentator, came up with a tweet where he wrote as to what he would have said if he was commentating in place of Shastri on the night of April 02, 2011, it didn’t go down well with the fans, and the former opener was subjected to severe trolling for the same.

On the occasion of Dhoni’s 15th International debut anniversary, Star Sports are counting down the fifteen best moments of the former captain’s career. And, when Sanjog Gupta asked Chopra his favorite Dhoni moment, the former opener replied, “I wasn’t on commentary when Dhoni sealed it with a six. 2nd April 2011. I would’ve gone something like—धोनी का बल्ला घूमा…इस बार सिर्फ़ वानखेड़े नहीं पूरा देश झूमा। A night to remember. A player to cherish. #15yearsOFMSD”
