When a series between India and Australia is coming up, the build-up has to be special. The two teams have witnessed so many memorable battles and personal achievements that there is no shortage of the ingredients required to make such a promising series even more absorbing. To add flavour to the upcoming series starting November 21 when India will take on Australia in the first T20I in Brisbane, two legends from either side came together for an interview and it was yet another event for the cricket lovers to appreciate.
Former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist recently interviewed Virat Kohli for Australia’s Fox Cricket and before the interview came live, the former posted a photo of him with Kohli on his Instagram account where he praised the Indian captain. The legendary keeper, the second-most successful in the world with 416 dismissals, called Kohli “thoughtful”, “insightful” and as a man with “awesome self belief”.
The former Australian cricketer said that he owed Kohli, who appeared in the blue jersey in the photo, a dinner.
Kohli is leading India for a full-fledged tour of Australia during which they will play three T20Is, four Tests and three ODIs. The series kicks off on November 21 with the first T20I at the Gabba, Brisbane, while the first Test will be played in Adelaide from December 6. It is the third overseas tour for India this year following the ones in South Africa and England where they lost the Test series 1-2 and 1-4, respectively.
Kohli averages 62 in Australia in Tests
The 30-year-old who recently completed 10,000 runs in ODIs as the planet’s fastest batsman, however, had successful outings as a batsman in both South Africa and England but failed to find worthy partners. The cricketing world will now be keen to watch how well he plays in Australia, where he had an impressive run in the 2014-15 tour when he also captained India in a couple of Tests.
Kohli has played eight Tests in Australia so far and has scored 992 runs at an average of 62. He has five hundreds Down Under so far with the highest of 169 scored in Melbourne in 2014.
