Australian cricket team has been in turmoil lately as their recent assignments haven’t been fruitful by any means. As if the humiliating Test series defeat against India earlier this year wasn’t enough, the Aussies lost T20I series against West Indies and Bangladesh recently. Besides players, head coach Justin Langer has also come under the scanner lately. In fact, it also has been reported that a section of Aussie players aren’t happy with Langer’s management.

Notably, the former Australian opener’s contract will end in the middle of 2022. Hence, it remains to be seen whether Cricket Australia offers him an extension or Langer’s ties will be ended. Speaking of the matter, former Australian wicketkeeper-batman Adam Gilchrist reckoned that the national board should be quick in taking a decision on Langer’s future.

The southpaw also opined that Langer gives his all to the team and the players would work alongside him sustainably. “Justin is very aware of these perceived issues with his management style, and he’s going to keep trying to work with that, and I’m sure the players will try to work alongside that as well,” Gilchrist told SEN Radio on Monday.

“But the bigger issue, and it will derail the summer if it doesn’t get sorted out, is the fact these journalists have direct line of contact with people within the inner sanctum there, and the people in that inner sanctum are happy to let it get out,” he added.

Gilchrist also said that any further delay on this matter would deteriorate the atmosphere of the dressing room. “Cricket Australia needs to try to address this very quickly. If everyone believes the best thing to do is move on from Justin Langer as a coach, do it sooner rather than later because it is just going to create a side issue, which is going to continue to be a circus,” he said.

With campaigns like T20 World Cup and Ashes 2021-22 in the pipeline, the Australian cricket team must certainly gear up to unleash its A-game. Langer will also have a point to prove as these events can decide his fate with the national team.
