Afghanistan and Bangladesh are likely to play a three-match ODI series in India in Dehradun in June this year. Both the teams have played in bilateral series only once before. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has agreed to play them in India but the itinerary is still under discussion. However, there is a possibility that the matches might be scheduled before the historic Test match between India and Afghanistan which will be played on June 14.

Afghanistan is currently playing in the ongoing ICC World Cup Qualifier and will play Ireland on March 23 as they continue to ply their trade to qualify for the marquee event next year in England. They earned the coveted Test status last year along with Ireland and will make their debut in the longest format against India.

BCB confirms the news

The Chief Executive of BCB, Nizamuddin, confirmed the news to Cricbuzz on Wednesday and cleared that the itinerary of the tour is under discussion. “We have decided in principle to play Afghanistan in India’s Dehradun for a three-match ODI series after they proposed it in recent past. We are still in discussion about the iterinary but most probably it will be played in the first week of June,” he said.

Also according to BCB, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had initially planned to host Bangladesh in UAE but once their attempts to do so was failed, they considered India as their next option. Interestingly, the Indian cricket board had permitted the use of Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports complex in Noida as the home ground for Afghanistan a couple of years ago.

Bangladesh had hosted Afghanistan back in 2016 which is the only bilateral series to date in which these two teams are involved. The home side had won the three-match ODI series by 2-1 margin as the upcoming series will also be exciting.
