Afghanistan national team leaves to Qatar for the Netherlands ODIs

The national Afghanistan National Men’s Cricket Team departs for Qatar to feature in a three-match ODI series against the Netherlands. The three ODIs which are scheduled to be held from 21st-25th January, are part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, which counts towards qualification for the ICC Men’s CWC 2023.
Afghan National squad led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, left Kabul for Qatar this afternoon to play their 2nd series in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League in late January at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium, Doha. Afghanistan will have a two-week-long preparation camp before taking on the Netherlands in the first ODI on 21st January. They will also play two more ODIs against the same opponents on 23rd and 25th January in the same venue respectively.
ACB Chairman, Mirwais Ashraf met the national team ahead of their departure and addressed them with the importance of the games. He further expressed to the team that they possess the full support of the nation and the countrymen expect the team to perform well in these competitions.
The CEO of the ACB also added that these competitions play a key role in the way forward to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He added: “All eyes are on direct qualification to the Cricket World Cup in 2023”. He added. “ACB is committed to providing all the facilities that the team needs”.

This will be Afghanistan’s 2nd outing at the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League after playing their first series in the event in January 2021 against Ireland, which they won 3-nil, gaining 30 points from 3 games.
The ICC Cricket World Cup Super League is a 13-team tournament that will take place across two years and will determine which teams qualify for the CWC 2023. India, who are the hosts in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, and the other top seven teams from the super league, will qualify automatically for the World Cup.
