After a high-scoring T20I series, the Afghanistan bowlers came to the party to help their team to take a 1-0 lead against Ireland in the 5-match ODI series. Mujeeb ur Rahman ran through the Irish top order as the visiting team were reduced to 69/6 by the 21st over. Paul Stirling held the things on one end till the final over with a 150-ball 89. George Dockrell scored 37 to put a 76-run partnership with Stirling for the 7th wicket as they finish on 161/10. Afghans completed the chase in the 42nd over for the loss of five wickets.

All the major stats and numbers recorded during Afghanistan’s convincing win:

Ireland batsmen hit in front:

6 – Number of Ireland batsmen were dismissed LBW in this game; the joint-most LBW dismissals in an ODI inning. New Zealand against Sri Lanka in the 2007 Auckland ODI, Zimbabwe against Sri Lanka in the 2008 Harare ODI and Australia against South Africa in the 2016 Port Elizabeth ODI had six batsmen being dismissed via LBW.

9 – As many as nine Ireland batsmen were dismissed LBW or Bowled in this game. Only Kevin O’Brien was out caught during the Irish innings. There are five other innings that included as many as nine bowled/LBW dismissals in ODI cricket.

A long inning from Stirling:

150 – Paul Stirling became the first Ireland batsman to face 150 deliveries in an ODI inning. Ed Joyce batted 149 balls during the 2018 Dubai ODI against UAE for his unbeaten 116.

2010 – Stirling is the first batsman to face 150 or more deliveries in an ODI inning without scoring a century since the start of 2011. Vusi Sibanda scored 95 off 162 balls in the 2010 Providence ODI against the Windies.

Dawlat @ 100:

101 – Dawlat Zadran completed 100 wickets in ODI cricket. He is the third player after Rashid Khan (119) and Mohammad Nabi (115) to complete 100 wickets in this format for Afghanistan.

2 – Only the 2nd time both of Afghanistan’s opening bowlers claimed 3-wicket hauls in the same ODI as Mujeeb ur Rahman and Dawlat claimed three wickets apiece. Shapoor Zadran and Dawlat bagged four and three wickets respectively in the 2015 CWC game against Scotland.

A record partnership to Ireland’s rescue:

76 – The 76-run stand between Stirling and George Dockrell is the highest partnership for a 7th or lower wicket in the ODI format for Ireland. The pair surpassed the 74-run stand between Kevin O’Brien and Andrew White for the 7th wicket in the 2006 Belfast ODI against England.

A failure by Rashid’s standards:

1/30Rashid Khan finished with figures of 1/30 in his ten overs; his 4th worst bowling figures among the 25 ODI matches he played in Asia. Rashid went wicketless in the 2017 Noida ODI against Ireland; the only time he failed to pick a wicket in an ODI in Asia.
