Afghanistan made a good comeback to their series against the West Indies played in India by bagging the T20I series by coming from behind. Having lost the first match by 30 runs after getting annihilated in the ODI series 0-3, Rashid Khan’s team won the last two T20Is to win the series 2-1. Bowling all-rounder Karim Janat, who took his maiden five-wicket haul in the second T20I that Afghanistan won by 41 runs, was picked as the man of the series.

However, one player who benefited from Afghanistan’s T20I series was teenage spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman. The right-arm off-break bowler came up with two crucial shows in the final two T20Is against the Caribbeans in which he conceded only nine and 10 runs, respectively, in three overs.

Though he picked only one wicket in those two games, his miserly performance after opening the bowling attack saw the Afghans stifling the West Indian run chase. As a result of his twin shows in Lucknow, Mujeeb saw his latest ICC T20I ranking jumping six places to reach No.2 from No.8.

In the shortest format, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan is the No.1 bowler which means the top two slots in the bowling department now belong to the No.8 team in the world. Mujeeb is also ranked third in the ODIs — the highest placed Afghanistan bowler. Mujeeb, who has 20 wickets from 16 T20I matches now, played in the ODI series preceding the T20Is and claimed five scalps.

The latest ICC ranking of T20I bowlers featured New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner at No.3; Pakistan’s Imad Wasim at No.4; Australia’s Adam Zampa at No.5; South Africa’s Andile Phehlukwayo at No.6; England’s Adil Rashid at No.7; Pakistan’s Shadab Khan at No.8; Australia’s Ashton Agar at No.9 and England’s Chris Jordan at No.10.

No.1 bowler in T20Is Rashid Khan, however, had an ordinary series as he managed to pick only three wickets in as many games in the series. In the ODIs, too, he got only two wickets. Babar Azam continues to stay on top in the T20I batting rankings.
