After joining BJP, Gautam Gambhir vows to serve India with ‘intent and honesty’

Gautam Gambhir retired from competitive cricket back in December 2018 and ever since speculations did the rounds that he would be plying his trade in the political field. The 37-year-old experienced campaigner also kept his supporters on their toes, regarding his stint in politics. The former Indian batsman is an active participant in social media and keeps posting on several issues.

The same also made the fans speculate about him entering politics in the future. Recently, the Delhi-born veteran decided to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After entering the new field, Gambhir took to the social media to show his elation. In his message for the people, the enigmatic Gambhir said he wants to serve the nation with intent and honesty as well.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “I have joined @BJP4India to serve the country with right intent and honesty. I hope through this I can make some meaningful difference to the lives of my people,”

Gambhir joined the BJP in the presence of Union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Arun Jaitley, a former president of Delhi & District Cricket Association. Gambhir remarked that he has been influenced by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.

Reports are also doing the rounds that he may contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, starting April 11 from the New Delhi constituency. The position is currently being held by BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi. Gambhir stays in Rajinder Nagar and his residency falls under the New Delhi constituency.

He also attended a press conference where Jaitley heaped praise on him. Gambhir recently was crowned with the prestigious Padma Shri award from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He is the latest cricketer to join politics after many others like Chetan Chauhan, Mohammed Kaif, Mohammad Azharuddin, Kirti Azad, and Navjot Sidhu.
