Former Indian skipper, CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) President and One-third of the CAC (Cricket Advisory Council), Sourav Ganguly, who has been the center of attraction lately for the appointment of head coach and his 8-foot long bronze statue, can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the decision to situate his statue will be taken tomorrow after never ending controversies on the matter.

The eight-foot long statue was initially supposed to be unveiled at the Bikash Maidan in Balurghat. Ganguly, recently took a train ride, after 16 long years, from Sealdah to Balurghat via Padatik Express. However, his journey started off on the wrong foot as he was involved in a confusion regarding his berth. As a result, Dada had to be shifted to a different compartment after he found a fellow passenger seated in where he had initially been offered a seat.

Ganguly-pride of nation, says Mamata

Ganguly, along with CAB secretary Abhishek Damiya (son of former BCCI President late Jagmohan Dalmiya), were en route to Balurghat to attend the statue unveiling event. After he reached the venue, thousands of Dada-frenzied fans were present to witness the event. But reports suggested that due to some Intra-group violence among the leaders of the ruling party of Trinamool Congress, Ganguly’s statue was not erected on the given day. The Chief Minister of the state, Smt. Mamata Banerjee had to finally intervene in the issue as Sourav Ganguly is regarded as the pride of Bengal as well as the whole nation.

Sourav Ganguly is not only the hero of West Bengal but also the whole country. We are really disheartened that these dirty politics has happened with a personality like him. The Association will install his statue as early as possible and we are happy that he is finally getting the honour which he always deserves.” said the South Dinjapur Sports Association official Goutam Goswami according to xtratime.
