After the owner of Belagavi Panthers, now CCB arrest one bookie who is alleged to have connections in KPL fixing scandal

Cricket has got one of the biggest fanbases in India, although it was first introduced by England during the 16th century. This sport has seen a drastic shift after the introduction of the T20 format, and the success of IPL in the country. After India won the inaugural T20 World Cup, then the Indian Premier League was introduced and after looking into the success of the mega event, different states of India started organizing different T20 leagues across the country like TNPL and KPL in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu respectively.

As the trend of franchise cricket has begun, it has given some spark to the fixing and betting as well which is associated with the game for very long. Now, there are some rumors that the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has come under the scanner over the charges of match-fixing.

CCB arrested one bookie and the other is out of reach

Earlier today there has been a movement over the investigation of the KPL fixing scandal and CCB have arrested Bhavesh Bafna and his partner Sanyam is yet to be arrested, the duo is known to be the bookies. Police became active after FIR being lofged against them. The joint commissioner feels that the duo had approached Bellari Tuskers and had asked the bowlers to give 10 runs per over and the bowlers refused to accept their proposal of fixing the match.

Last month, Ali Asfak Thara, the owner of Belagavi Panthers, was arrested with the possibility that he was in connection with the international betting racket but the decision will be taken after the completion of the investigation by Central Crime Branch. The police are doing the inquiry whether he was also involved in match-fixing or not as the charges on him are of only betting. CCB has analyzed his mobile as well as laptop and found that he was in touch with many players across teams. On the basis of their research, they have enquired more than 30 players till now.

Hubli Tigers are the current champions of this league in the recently concluded season back in August 2019. This league will head towards its 7th season that will take place in 2020.
