Hailed as the next big thing in Pakistan cricket for quite a while, Ahmed Shehzad was involved in a needless incident with a fan after the end of Day 3 of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final in Karachi. The fan tried to click a selfie with the ‘selfie boy’, as Shehzad is popularly trolled as on Twitter but the 25-year old pushed his hand aggressively which broke the fan’s phone and walked away nonchalantly.

Poor conduct by Shehzad

This was an appalling incident by the Pakistani batsman as a harmless fan just wanted a picture with him. He could have politely refused but he chose to be very harsh on the fan. The incident occurred on Tuesday after Ahmed Shehzad waited for 73 overs to get a hit out in the middle. The openers – Fakhar Zaman and Imam-Ul-Haq – remained unbeaten till stumps helping Habib Bank Limited to reach 264 at stumps on Day 3.

He eventually got his chance to bat on Day 4 and notched up an unbeaten century after failing in the first innings. His brisk innings allowed his team to declare and had 111 overs to skittle out the opposition – Water and Power Development Authority which was being led by Salman Butt. The tainted cricketer helped his team secure a draw by getting a gritty unbeaten 337-ball 105. This was his second century of the game as Butt scored a rollicking 125 in the first innings. His twin hundreds not only won him the Man of the Match award but also helped his side win the competition by virtue of the draw. This will only strengthen his case for a national comeback as everyone including chief selector Inzamam Ul Haq is impressed with the former captain’s form and fitness.

Celebrities must be reprimanded for such incidents

Shehzad’s incident will go unnoticed because of the massive adulation and fan following cricketers get in the sub-continent. Such behavior must be reprimanded stringently by the Boards as a fan must never be manhandled by any celebrity.
