Pakistan’s star opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad will be returning to Pakistan without participating in the title deciding Test match against the West Indies. It is understood that Shehzad’s mother is unwell at the moment, and he wants to join her before he sets off for England for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

Shehzad had placed a request before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), asking for permission to leave West Indies so that he can spend a few days with his mother, before joining the team in the 8-team elite tournament which commences from 1st of June, 2017.

“Ahmad wants to be with his mother who is unwell and currently under treatment for a serious disease diagnosed a few weeks back”. He further said that he will not be missing the ICC Champions Trophy, and will be with the rest of the team members at Birmingham well within time. “After Ahmad was ruled out of the third Test due to his own illness, he requested that he should be allowed to go back to Pakistan and see his mother before he joins squad back in Birmingham for the Champions’ Trophy,” speaking to Geo.tv, a Pakistan Cricket Board official clarified.

In the four innings against West Indies in the ongoing Test series, he has scored 31, 6, 70 and 14 respectively. He received severe criticism from many, including Pakistan supporters, for playing “selfish” knocks. As per the reports, the source revealed that he wouldn’t have been a part of the team in the title-deciding Test anyway, as he was ruled out of the final match of the series due to illness. He was ill ever since the team’s arrival to Dominica and was continuously having antibiotics.

Pakistan will be looking forward to winning what would be their first ever Champions Trophy. They are placed in Group B alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, and arch-rivals and two-time winners (once shared with Sri Lanka) of the tournament India. They would be looking forward to some great knocks from Shehzad in the tournament that will help them get a chance to get their hands on the much-desired trophy.
