When it comes of using one’s wrists, VVS Laxman can be regarded as one of the best in the business. His wrists were flexible to such an extent that he used to turn deliveries from outside the off-stump. The fielders on the leg side used to get a tad surprised as the leather mostly sped away to the boundary. He doesn’t possess colossal records like a Sachin Tendulkar.

But his numbers in international cricket aren’t something to be dismissed by any stretch of the imagination. He donned the national colours in 134 Tests and 86 ODIs in which he racked up 8781 and 2338 runs respectively. He made his Test debut way back in 1996 and he last represented the country in Test cricket back in 2012 against Australia at Adelaide Oval.

His ODI career didn’t quite flourish and it lasted only eight years from April 1998 to December 2006. The 44-year-old has 23 centuries and 66 half-centuries in international cricket. His knock of 281 against the Aussies at the iconic Eden Gardens, where he bailed his team out of a precarious position, remains to be one of the greatest knocks Test cricket has ever seen.

A delighted Ajay Devgn

He also had the privilege of playing for Deccan Chargers in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL). Laxman is currently associated with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In the meantime, his new book has hit the markets. His new autobiography 281 and beyond has recently been released and a number of his supporters have already ordered the book by the veteran.

Meanwhile, Laxman gifted a copy of the book to Ajay Devgn, a renowned Bollywood actor. The actor was delighted with the gesture and he posted a picture of the book on Twitter. Moreover, he captioned the photo and wrote, “Thank you for the book @VVSLaxman281. Looking forward to the chapters inside,”
