Indian opener Ajinkya Rahane has faced the backlash of fans on Twitter for promoting the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ drive of the Indian Government. This campaign has been launched by the Government in order to encourage and inculcate a spirit of cleanliness all over the country. Recently, Rahane took to social media platform Twitter to express his gratitude towards the nation’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The tweet was in response to PM Modi’s invitation to participate in the “Swachhata Hi Seva” movement. The cricketers getting involved in such a campaign is not new. Last year, on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti the Indian skipper Virat Kohli along with the other players took part in cleanliness program in Kolkata at the Eden Gardens and cleaned the stands of the stadium. There is also a similar campaign called “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” put in motion by the Government to keep the country cleaner.

Twitter responds to the post of BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a picture of Ajinkya Rahane throwing the water bottle in the dustbin and promoting the drive. The message of BCCI in support of the initiative was, “Join ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement like @ajinkyarahane88 and participate in #MyCleanIndia #TeamIndia – @narendramodi @PMOIndia @swachhbharat.”

However, it didn’t go down well with Twitterati and they trolled Rahane. While a few worried about his form and suggested him to perform on the field, some of them literally made fun of him for wasting the water by throwing the half-filled bottle in the dustbin.

The BCCI’s tweet:

This is how Twitterati trolled the Indian cricketer:

Ajinkya is currently involved in the third ODI being played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Australia won the toss and the openers have started cautiously on the pitch which looks to be a belter. Rahane would love to make a major impact on this game like he did in Kolkata having scored a sublime 54 batting first.
