Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Shane Watson feels that things are falling apart at the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp in the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He feels that Simon Katich stepping down from his role after the mega auction was a warning sign for SRH.

Watson has been a part of the IPL for a very long. After his retirement, he joined the experts’ panel last year to be involved in the game, and is now a part of the Capitals as their assistant coach, alongside his friend and former teammate Ricky Ponting.

During his conversation with the YouTube channel ‘The Grade Cricketer’, he shared his thoughts on the situation prevailing at the Hyderabad franchise. “Alarm bells started when Simon Katich left just after the auction. That’s normally not a great sight because Katich is one of the most generally good people. It’s really injustice really if people really go against what they say.

“So obviously something has gone down there that Katich stepped away immediately and won’t be a part of it. That’s a warning sign to start with.”

Simon Katich quit his role before the start of IPL 2022

Katich gave up his role as Tom Moody’s deputy within just two months of his appointment. The reason he quoted was the discomfort he was facing inside the bio-bubble and living far away from his family for a period of two months, as per his official statement to the franchise.

But later, a report by The Australian pointed out that Katich had left the side because he did not agree with the team management and felt that the plans that he had for the auction were ignored. Hyderabad’s team for the IPL 2022 is not that great according to some experts as they let go of some of their finest players before the auction.

Opining on this, Watson said: “The make-up of their team is not incredibly strong and then how they have performed in the first game. Yes, Rajasthan Royals have a very good squad, and they played really well, but it’s not looking great. It feels like there is a lot of stuff around the team that is obviously not helping everything on the field.”

SRH lost their opening game against Rajasthan Royals as they failed to chase a huge target of 210 runs, and could manage to score only 149 runs.
