The inaugural ceremony and the opening match of the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League will be held at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here on April 5, John Manoj, HCA Secretary confirmed.

Rubbishing speculations about the two being moved out of Hyderabad in view of the on-going strike of the maintenance staff due to the financial crisis being faced by HCA, Mr. John Manoj reminded that the BCCI has been in constant touch with him about the preparations.

“They are aware of the ground staff strike and also working out a way to clear their salaries. The big problem is that since spending of revenue amount raised through hosting the Test match is subjudice, we are waiting for a final order from the Court. The ₹ 1.4 crore advertisement revenue raised during the Bangladesh Test last month here is locked in the bank because of this,” the HCA official pointed out.

Everything is being taken care of well and preparations have been almost completed. There is a tripartite agreement among the BCCI, the IPL franchisees and the state associations. “We were told by the BCCI that they would be able to release the money later and in the meanwhile the franchise (in this case Sunrisers Hyderabad) will pay Rs. 30 lakh each for the home games (totalling about Rs. 2.10 crore) for letting out the venue,” he explained.

He also revealed that for the first time in IPL history at least 60% of the work is over well in advance than was the case in earlier editions. They had another round of discussion with the ground staff and convinced them on the need for helping in the preparations.

Mr. Manoj is very positive that everything in the next couple of days would be sorted and the state association will pull off all the matches successfully.
