All-rounder Rory Kleinveldt bids adieu to red-ball cricket
He played 20 international matches for South Africa.

Rory Kleinveldt, the 35-year-old all-rounder, has decided to call it quits from red-ball cricket. However, he would be playing white-ball cricket for Cape Cobras in the upcoming One Day Cup tournament, which is scheduled to get underway on February 8. The experienced campaigner announced his retirement following the Cobras’ six-wicket defeat against the Warriors in Cape Town.
In that match, Kleinveldt could only pick up one wicket, but scored 42 and 19 in the two innings he batted. In fact, he only played a couple of matches in the four-day Franchise series in which he scored 134 runs at an average of 44.66 and also picked up four wickets. The veteran took to Twitter and put forth his decision.
The Cape Province-born took to Twitter and wrote, “Finally lost the love for the toil !!! Been a great ride n made some unbelievable memories!! Love to all my teammates,coaches,family n friends for the support over the 17 years!”

Next, he also clarified that his retirement is only from red-ball cricket. He clarified and wrote, “Sorry guys meant to #redball,”

Kleinveldt’s career in brief
During a career, which spanned as many as 17 years, Rory Kleinveldt also had the privilege of donning the South African jersey. He went on to play four Tests, 10 ODIs and six T20Is in which he mustered 27, 105 and 25 runs respectively. Moreover, he notched 10, 12 and nine wickets in the three formats. He made his international debut during a T20I against Bangladesh at the Wanderers in Johannesburg in 2008.
His last match for the Proteas was an ODI against Sri Lanka in Pallekele in 2013. As far as his first-class career is concerned, Rory played 148 games and finished with 3743 runs and 454 wickets. The fast-bowling all-rounder has also honed his skills in 167 List A and 153 T20 matches where he scored nearly 3000 runs and got over 300 wickets. He was undoubtedly a stalwart in South Africa’s domestic circuit.
