Ambati Rayudu who was named a back-up player for the World Cup squad must be baffled after he was not considered to replace Vijay Shankar in the squad. The all-rounder injured his toe and was ruled out of the ongoing 2019 World Cup and instead, Mayank Agarwal was called up to replace him. Earlier, Team India had called in Rishabh Pant for Shikhar Dhawan, who had fractured his thumb in the game against Australia to be ruled out of the tournament.
Rayudu, was originally set to be the answer for India’s no.4 problem and spent the most of 2018 batting at that position and scored quite a few runs. However, 2019 brought drought in runs from his bat as India played Australia and New Zealand and Vijay Shankar was chosen for his 3-dimensional abilities.
Iceland cricket offers citizenship to Rayudu
The 33-year-old may have not done himself any favours by making that 3D glasses tweet, taking a dig at selectors though it wasn’t considered an offence by the BCCI. The selectors’ decision to pick Pant and Mayank Agarwal over him as replacements speak volumes of the value he is regarded worth by the team management.
In such a gloomy period, he has been offered a ray of hope. He has an opportunity to move to a foreign country and play cricket for them.
The offer was made by Iceland Cricket on their official Twitter account. They are known for the sarcasm and humour that dominates most of their tweets. They often target cricketers and this time the pick was Rayudu as IC even mentioned his 3D glasses and threw in Agarwal’s name.
With that tweet, they attached the ‘List of documents you must submit to the Director of Immigration with an application for a permanent residence permit’. “Agarwal has three professional wickets at 72.33 so at least Rayudu Ambati can put away his 3D glasses now. He will only need normal glasses to read the document we have prepared for him. Come join us Ambati,” the Iceland cricket tweeted.

All this has to be taken with a pinch of salt given their propensity of riling up fans despite their efforts to bring laughter.
Here is their post:
