Amid his spat with Sanjay Manjrekar, Ravindra Jadeja finds love from CSK

India’s left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja lashed out at commentator Sanjay Manjrekar recently after the former cricketer had called him a “bits and pieces cricketer” in an interview amidst the ICC World Cup 2019. Jadeja was so livid with Manjrekar that he even said that he had enough of his “verbal diarrhoea”. The all-rounder is not the first cricketer to have found himself at odds with Manjrekar’s commentary but his reaction was far too aggressive than many others.

On July 4, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the franchise for which Jadeja plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL), took to Twitter to express its love for the southpaw. Jadeja, incidentally, got his first game of the 2019 World Cup at Leeds on Saturday when India took on Sri Lanka in an inconsequential game. The 30-year-old came up with some magnificent fielding acts in the game that India eye to win in the hope of occupying the top slot in the points table and avoid England in the semi-finals.

Jadeja, who is playing in his second World Cup, has been found to be fielding as a substitute in the tournament so far. On Saturday, he replaced pacer Mohammed Shami, who despite his 14-wicket haul in four games, has gone for quite a few runs. This is Jadeja’s first international game since his appearance in one of the ODIs against Australia in March.

Throwing its back behind one of its top cricketers, the CSK said they love Jadeja “to bits, to pieces, eight times round the Moon and back!”

Jadeja has played in 41 Tests, 151 ODIs and 40 T20Is, scoring over 3,000 runs and taking nearly 300 wickets. He also has one hundred in Tests.

Manjrekar said he is not fan of bits-and-pieces cricketer

During his commentary, Manjrekar had said that he is not a fan of bits-and-pieces players that Jadeja is at this point of his career in 50-over cricket. He called Jadeja a pure bowler in Tests and preferred to have a batsman and spinner in the 50-over format. Manjrekar said this during the England-India game after the spinning duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav conceded too many runs in the game at Edgbaston.
