Delhi Daredevils’ ace leg-spinner Amit Mishra finished with impressive figures of 1-23 in his side’s clash against SRH on Tuesday. Mishra picked up the important wicket of Shikhar Dhawan, who was looking aggressive at the start of the Sunrisers Hyderabad innings.

However, the Haryana leggie wasn’t entirely satisfied with his performance as he would have liked a few more wickets under his belt.

“My bowling is always like wicket-taking and I always think that if you take wickets in any format, you can pressure other teams. Today I was mixing my pace and I’m disappointed that I was not able to pick more wickets but I bowled well, I am very happy that my team has won and we are taking this forward from here,” Mishra said.

Amit Mishra has been a success story of the IPL with a total of 132 wickets in the history of the tournament. Mishra finds himself at 2nd position in the list of highest wicket-takers in the IPL, behind Lasith Malinga who has 149.

In the post-match press conference, Amit Mishra spoke about the team’s chances of making the play-offs and the way the Daredevils would approach their upcoming games. Mishra shared that the Delhi Daredevils is focusing on taking one game at a time and looking to play their best combination in the business end of the tournament.

“See we’re going match by match. We are very positive from now because we all know that we have got a very good team. It’s all about the click and we clicked today like batting and bowling, we are still struggling with the fielding. Like today, the fielding was not up to the mark. We are doing lot of things like we have a good team. We are covering all the areas but we have to be just positive from here,” Mishra said.

The Delhi Daredevils were indeed sloppy in the field, letting off easy chances at crucial stages of the innings. There were one too many misfields, which resulted in the extra run given away, and even generous offerings in the form of overthrows. Moreover, Samson dropped Yuvraj in the 16th over when he was on 29. Yuvraj eventually went on to make 70 to power the SRH total to 185.

However, Mishra was all praises for the DD batsmen, who all got among the runs to ensure the Daredevils were never behind the asking rate. Stand-in skipper Karun Nair got off to a surprisingly blistering start. Healthy contributions from Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and most importantly Corey Anderson meant the Daredevils were comfortably over the finish line with 5 balls to spare.

“What I think is, we were not able to click with the bat unlike today or the match that we played against Rising Pune Supergiant where we scored 200 runs. So if we are able to bat properly, it compliments the bowling as we have a good line up,” the spinner said.

“I have said this earlier as well that you don’t get much time to think and if something or the other goes wrong and is not going your way then that pushes you on to the backfoot. You need to execute your plans perfectly in this format. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t and like today we were able to execute well with the bat and the result is here,” he added.

Following Tuesday’s clinical victory over defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad, Amit Mishra believes that the team can still make it through to the playoffs. However, Delhi will have to win all of their remaining 5 matches to be in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs. DD are currently in 6th position with 6 points in the bag.

“We are very positive about getting through to the play-offs. If we win five games, we can qualify as far as the calculation is concerned. But we are not going in such a way that a particular game is a home game or away. We are focusing on one match at a time, like in today’s game, our preparation was very good and we will try to focus on the upcoming match about what we need to improve, in the bowling or batting department,” he concluded.
