The ICC World Cup this year has already made history as the edition with most rain-affected matches and it is just two weeks that the tournament has started. On Thursday, the much-awaited game between two undefeated teams in the fray so far – India and New Zealand – was abandoned at Trent Bridge. In the last seven games, four have been washed out and the fans have directed their frustration at the International Cricket Council.

The international body has also been criticised for not keeping reserve days though it has said in defence that keeping reserve days for each match was not feasible for logistical concerns. Meanwhile, as the fans were becoming impatient with the turn of things in England which has seen a more than average rainfall this June, megastar Amitabh Bachchan has come out with a funny take.

Citing the lack of rain in India at the moment and the growing water crisis, the 76-year-old actor tweeted saying it would be a good idea to shift the World Cup to here since the country needs rain at the moment. Although monsoon has officially hit the Indian shores this season, yet the high temperature across the country has made lives miserable.

India set to host 2023 World Cup

It may be mentioned here that India are already set to host the 2023 edition of the World Cup. While it will be the fourth time the mega event will be held in the sub-continent, India will be the sole hosts for the tournament next time with none of its neighbours chipping in. The tournament will be played between February and March.

Coming back to the current edition, the wash-out of the India-New Zealand match means both teams continue to be unbeaten in the tournament. While the Black Caps now have seven points from four games with three wins, India have five points from three games with two wins.

India will next play Pakistan at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday. While the Men in Blue have never lost against their arch-rivals in the World Cup ever, they were beaten comprehensively in the final of the Champions Trophy by Pakistan exactly two years ago in the same territory.
