At the close of play on the third day of the Boxing Day Test, India are in a commanding position as they lead by 346 runs with five wickets remaining in their second innings. Australia started the day with a massive trail of 335 runs and with overnight batsmen Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch in the middle, but both couldn’t survive the venom spewed by the Indian fast bowlers.

Ishant Sharma drew first blood with the wicket of Finch in the 11th over and ever since, the visitors didn’t look back by any stretch of the imagination. However, it was speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who turned out to be the wrecker-in-chief. He picked up his best figures in Test, a six-wicket-haul and the superlative spell of bowling didn’t allow the Aussies to get a foothold into the match.

India in a strong position

From Australia’s perspective, Harris, Usman Khawaja and captain Tim Paine scored into the 20s, but none could go on to convert their starts. As a result, Australia were bundled out for 151, thereby conceding a lead of 292 runs. In India’s second innings, Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari got impressive starts. Nevertheless, Pat Cummins came into this own with the ball.

The right-arm seamer picked up four wickets late in the day and reduced the visiting team to 54/5 in the second innings. In the meantime, veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan was delighted with the display of cricket Virat and Co put forth at the iconic MCG. Moreover, he also warned the Aussies to not take India head-on.  Furthermore, he also lauded Bumrah.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “T 3041 – AAAHAHAAAAAAAA !!!! Well done Virat and team India .. ठोक दिया कंगारू को .. Bumrah तूने तो गुमराह कर दिया इन Aussies को .. और यार Kangaroo, तू न , पंगा मत लिया कर भारत से । जिस दिन हमारी खोपड़ी सटकली , यही हषर होगा !!,”
