The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) achieved a thumping victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday at the MCA stadium in Pune, defeating them by seven wickets in the 18th match of the IPL 2022. It was a collective effort from their top four batters that helped RCB chase down the total before the bowlers restricted the opposition to 151 runs.

The game started off well for MI when the openers put up a fifty-run partnership, but it became a nightmare when they faced a drastic collapse, losing five wickets in five overs after the powerplay. Suryakumar Yadav’s knock of 68*(37) helped MI cross the 150-run mark, but the total was not enough to defend.

RCB opener Anuj Rawat played a magnificent innings  of 66 (47) during the chase and was supported by Virat Kohli as the two put up an 80-run stand. Rawat’s composed innings grasped everyone’s attention, especially that of skipper Faf du Plessis. He praised the young lad for his knock and termed him as the one to watch out for in future.

“I spoke about him before at the start of the tournament. Just looking from the potential that he has, Lots of conversations between the two of us. Trying to get that potential and that skill that he has to game awareness. The way he’s playing at the moment is beautiful, the way he takes on the game even early on coming down the wicket, showing that intent. That’s what makes the young gun, so good for us at the moment. He’s a very good player for the future,” he said after the match.

Anuj Rawat also expressed his joy after the knock saying he felt accomplished

Anuj Rawat was very happy after his match-winning innings and said that he was able to do what he wanted to since the first game. He was dismissed for low scores in the previous games and made his first IPL half-century on Saturday (April 9). He also mentioned that he relishes being around Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli.

After having won three games in a row, RCB is now placed at No. 3 in the points table, just below Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, who have an equal number of wins as RCB.
