Former BCCI President Anurag Thakur has come hard on the Indian board for not standing by skipper Virat despite continuous accusations from the Australian media in the ongoing off-field tussle between the two teams. The Australian media has accused Kohli of making false allegations against Steve Smith after the infamous DRS saga during the Bengaluru Test.
During the after match press conference Kohli lashed out at Smith and said his act of consulting with the dressing room for a DRS call falls under that bracket. He clearly meant to say that Smith and Australia cheated. He further went on to add that it wasn’t the first time it happened during the match as he had observed it twice while batting.
Following his remarks, the Australian media accused Kohli of hurling a Gatorade bottle towards an official while another newspaper compared him with Donald Trump. Aussie CEO James Sutherland added fuel to the fire by saying Kohli doesn’t even know how to spell the word sorry when he was asked if the Indian captain apologised after the heated press conference following the 2nd Test. The BCCI had filed a complaint against Smith but later withdrew it to maintain peace between the two countries.
Anurag Thakur who was ousted from the President’s post earlier this year lashed out at BCCI for calling peace and termed Sutherland’s remarks as disgraceful. “DISGRACEFUL behaviour by Australian media and Cricket Australia officials in the way they are talking abt a legend of the game Virat Kohli,” Thakur tweeted.

What sort of 'truce' ws this? @BCCI compromised the integrity of their #TeamIndia Capt @imVkohli & didn't stand by their players & team. 2/3

Its the fault of @BCCI & complete arrogance of @CricketAus who've alwys tried to dictate terms in cricket and target players. 3/3

The series has been marred with off-field controversies ever since the Bengaluru Test with the Australian media regularly taking a dig at Kohli. While Cheteshwar Pujara said that comments made by Aussie CEO were disappointing to hear, the mind games played by Australia won’t enter the mental set up of the current Indian team under Kohli’s captaincy.
