James Anderson’s dig at Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin has grabbed the attention of none other that BCCI president Anurag Thakur. Thakur came out in support of his players and pointed out at the deficits Anderson’s has bowling on the sub-continent pitches.

The England bowling spearhead refused to accept his flaws and made some unflattering comments about Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin at the end of Day 4. He felt that Kohli and the spinners weren’t too tough to handle. Anderson felt that playing in conditions that do not exploit his “technical deficiencies” makes Kohli look superior.

When asked to comment on Anderson’s comments, Thakur gave a snappy reply by quoting the Hindi proverb, “Khisiyaani billi khamba nochey (express anger after being left embarrassed).”

Anderson had said, “I just think any technical deficiencies he’s got aren’t in play out here. The wickets just take that out of the equation.”

“We had success against him in England, but the pace of the pitches over here just take any flaws he has out of the equation. There’s not that pace in the wicket to get the nicks like we did against him in England with a bit more movement. Pitches like this suit him down to the ground,” the quickie had commented.

Ravichandran Ashwin, on the fifth day morning, seemed to ask the fast bowler about the comments when he came out to bat as the last man. In the 55th over, Ashwin exchanged words with Anderson and the matter needed the intervention of Virat Kohli and umpires.

India eventually wrapped up the match by an innings and 36 runs on the fifth morning of the fourth Test in Mumbai, which allowed the hosts to take an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the series, Thakur said, “I would like to congratulate Virat Kohli and Team India for their brilliant performance. They have showed that they are truly the number one team in the world. The way Jayant Yadav has performed needs to be praised,” he told ANI.
