Team India has been placed at the third position in the ICC rankings and has been deemed as one of the favourites to win this year’s Champions Trophy. While they haven’t played as many ODIs this season, with their last ODI assignment being way back in January, it would be interesting to see how they regroup together for what is also called the ‘Mini’ World Cup.
There’s no doubt that the defending champions have lots of firepower in their ranks. Be it captain Virat Kohli or experienced and legendary figures like MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. Rohit Sharma is returning to international cricket after a seven-month gap and he too would be high after a successful IPL campaign.
The bowling department also looks in great shape with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami expected to lead the pace battery. Spin twins Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja would be looking to repeat their magic from 2013. While India seems to have got all their areas covered, there are many cricketers who would be approaching some milestones in the tournament. Here we have a look at them:-
Virat Kohli
– The Indian skipper needs 245 runs to complete 8000 runs in ODIs.
– If Kohli completes this feat in the Champions Trophy, he’ll end up being the fastest to reach 8000 runs. Current record is held by AB de Villiers who completed it in 182 innings. He has so far played 171 innings.
– He is 39 runs away from completing 14000 runs in his international career.
– 1 more century and he will equal Sanath Jayasuriya to be the joint 3rd highest centurion next only to Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting.
– As Virat Kohli walks out for the first game, this would be his 50th international game as a captain.
MS Dhoni
– MS Dhoni needs 103 runs more and he will pip Mohammad Azharuddin to become the fourth highest run scorer for India in ODIs next to the trio of Sachin, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.
– He will complete 450 appearances in international cricket as he walks into the field for the opening encounter against Pakistan.
Yuvraj Singh
– 10 more boundaries and Yuvraj will complete 900 boundaries in ODI cricket.
– He needs 8 more catches to complete the distinction of 100 catches in ODIs.
– Yuvi is 3 wickets away from completing 150 wickets in international cricket.
Rohit Sharma
– 3 more half centuries and Rohit will reach the distinction of scoring 50 half centuries in international cricket.
Shikhar Dhawan
– Dhawan is 30 runs away from completing 5000 runs in international cricket.
Ravindra Jadeja
– Jadeja is 112 runs away from completing 2000 runs in ODIs. He will also become only the third Indian to complete the double of 2000 runs and 150 wickets in ODIs after Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev.
– He needs 5 more catches to complete the distinction of 50 catches in ODIs.
– 2 more matches and Ravindra Jadeja will complete 200 appearances in international cricket.
Ravichandran Ashwin
– Ashwin is 5 wickets away from completing 150 wickets in ODIs.
– He is 1 match away from completing 200 appearances in international cricket.
Mohammed Shami
– The right-arm pacer is 13 wickets away from completing 100 wickets in ODIs.
