There is one poignant moment of Jasprit Bumrah that stands out when he burst into the scene with an unusual action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the year 2013. The right-hand pacer got star batter AB de Villiers out and gestured him to go to the pavilion. That aggressive action was not liked by many experts and critics. Now after nine years, Bumrah does not seem to show many emotions on the cricket field. Be it while taking wickets or scoring runs down the order, India pace spearhead has kind of mellowed down.

During the third day’s play in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final against New Zealand, Bumrah slipped while trying to save a boundary. Rather than letting a roar, or kicking the turf in anger, the right-hand pacer just shrugged off and smiled.

Now, Bumrah has opened up on his anger issues and how he dealt with them. “When I started playing cricket as a youngster, I used to get angry left, right, and center. I used to do all the gimmicks back then, and it never helped my cricket,” Jasprit Bumrah was quoted as saying by the ICC.

With a good amount of experience behind his belt, Bumrah has now figured out what works for him and what doesn’t. Soon after his IPL success, the right-had pacer made his international debut in 2016 and has gone to be the leader of the attack in all three formats.

“Now, over the years, when I have played a good amount of international cricket, I have realized what works for me. I am smiling, but the fire inside is burning all the time,” added Bumrah.

Jasprit Bumrah sheds light on how he controlled his aggression

Apart from being the leader of the attack, the 27-year-old also guides a lot of youngsters in the IPL and in the Indian team. He feels being calm all the time has helped him evolve as a cricketer.

“I don’t try to show (aggression), and it has helped me to succeed, and with that controlled aggression, I take my game forward,” said Bumrah.

Bumrah also concluded by saying that he didn’t idolize any specific bowlers growing up and he developed this unorthodox action by practicing a lot when he was growing up.
