"Asay hota hai bhai" - Shoaib Akhtar praises Yasir Shah for his maiden Test century

Yasir Shah helped Pakistan lessen their embarrassment in the first innings after they were 96/6 at one point on time on day two of the second Test match against Australia being played in the day-night format at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. Australia had slammed 589/3d in their first innings thanks to Marnus Labuschagne’s second Test hundred and David Warner’s amazing 335*, the second-highest Test score by an Australian.

Pakistani bowlers just didn’t have the answer to Australia’s dominance. In the reply, Mitchell Starc ripped their heart out with wickets of Imam, Shafiq, Iftikhar, and Rizwan on day two to leave Pakistan teetering. But Babar Azam made 97 and Yasir Shah amazed everyone by making his maiden Test and FC century, 113 in 213 balls with 13 fours to his name. He was praised by former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar on Twitter.

After Mitchell Starc had ripped out Babar Azam at 194 runs on the board, Yasir Shah with help of Mohammad Abbas (29) and Muhammad Musa Khan (12) took the score to 302 all out, closing the deficit to 287 runs. Shoaib Akhtar lauded Yasir and Babar’s efforts on Twitter and posted, “Great resilience shown by @Shah64Y. Meanwhile, Tim Paine decided to enforce the follow-on and Hazlewood and Starc removed Imam, Azhar, and Babar for single digits, leaving Pakistan 39/3 and still 248 runs adrift at the end of the day’s play. Mitchell Starc had picked 6/66 in the first innings, while Pat Cummins had 3/83. In the second turn, Hazlewood has 2/15 so far.

David Warner meanwhile surpassed Sir Don Bradman and Mark Taylor, who both scored 334 and became the second-highest scorer in an innings for Kangaroos with 335*, behind Matthew Hayden’s 380 against Zimbabwe. This is also the 10^th highest score by a batsman in Test cricket and Warner’s second score of over 250 as an opener. This was the first-ever triple hundred at the Adelaide Oval, going past Sir Don Bradman’s record of 299* against England way back in the 1920s.
